Amelie Hecht

Amelie Hecht, BA, is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Health and Public Policy track. Amelie is interested in evaluating programs and policies designed to increase access to and consumption of healthy foods and beverages, particularly among vulnerable populations. Her research and practice focus on domestic nutrition policy, physical activity programming, food system resilience, food waste and recovery, and sustainable diets. Amelie’s dissertation explores implementation and impacts of the Community Eligibility Provision, a new provision within the National School Lunch Program that allows schools in high-poverty areas to serve universal free meals. Amelie earned a BA in Community Health and American Studies from Tufts University. Prior to entering graduate school, Amelie worked at the University of California, San Francisco, where she conducted research on innovative policies and school-based interventions to address childhood obesity. She has also served as an AmeriCorps member at a federally qualified health center in northern Colorado. Amelie’s doctoral advisor is Dr. Keshia Pollack Porter.
