The Smell of Money

The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future decided to cancel the February 8, 2023 planned screening of the “Smell of Money” film at the Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore in response to some of our colleagues expressing concerns about the film’s sensitive content, particularly the use of a racial slur. In acknowledging those concerns, we felt it prudent to cancel the Baltimore screening and take the time needed to listen, reflect, and address these concerns prior to moving forward. The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future continues to value the film and the important issues it addresses, and we were pleased to co-host a screening and panel discussion for the film on February 7, 2023, in Washington, D.C. We have started internal discussions to determine the appropriate next steps and remain open to exploring future opportunities to highlight the film.
