Preparing a Moveable Feast

By: Christine Grillo

One of the ways that the Center for a Livable Future (CLF) staff members engage with Baltimore’s food system is by volunteering at a local organization that provides medically tailored meals to people living with chronic illnesses and food insecurity across Baltimore.

Moveable Feast was founded during the height of the AIDS epidemic in 1989, to provide food, hope, and love to those living with HIV/AIDS, many of whom were members of the LGBTQ+ community, and their work continues today to deliver food to an increasing number of Marylanders living without the necessary access, financial resources, and support to achieve the best quality of life. This ongoing  Center activity brings CLF into Moveable Feast’s kitchen once a quarter to learn from their team and help prepare nutritious and appropriate meals for those ithey serve.

CLF’s Senior Administrative Coordinator, Veronica Greene, finds the experience to be meaningful. “It provides an opportunity to give back to the Baltimore community while reinforcing the important connection between nutrition, health, and dignity,” she says. “Preparing medically tailored meals alongside my colleagues is a reminder that even small acts of service can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others.”
