What if Soil Microbes Mattered?: Our Health Depends on Them

CLF Report
Successful farming starts belowground, where the soil’s tiny inhabitants do unsung work that is essential to crops’ success. Beneficial bacteria and fungi not only establish the soil habitat by creating a porous structure, but they also help crops obtain nutrients and defend against pests and disease. However, the heavy tillage and prodigious chemical use that are standard in industrial farming degrade this soil ecology and diminish its vital functions. Regenerative agriculture, meanwhile, gives appropriate attention to our soil allies, and offers potential for a brighter farming future.
