Karina Christiansen

Karina Christiansen, MPP, is a fourth-year doctoral candidate in the Department of Health Policy and Management, with a concentration in Health and Public Policy. She received a bachelor’s degree in History from Loyola College in Maryland and a Master of Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University in 2011. She is interested in the history of urban grocery retail and its relationship to the poor access to healthy food often seen in marginalized neighborhoods today. Her dissertation research will explore the process of racialization of neighborhood grocery in Brooklyn, New York in the postwar era to present and its implications for sound food policy moving forward. Her advisor is Dr. Keshia Pollack, associate professor, Department of Health Policy and Management.
