Yessika Mashinski

Yessika Mashinski is a third-year PhD student in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. She is interested in the impact that industrial food animal production has on the quality of the surrounding water bodies. She has a background working with infectious diseases, having conducted extensive laboratory and fieldwork in Peru and the US. Ms. Mashinski will focus her research on host-specific pathogens in water samples impacted by agricultural runoff of animal wastes. She believes that providing persuasive data to policymakers will help to create more sustainable food systems. Ms. Mashinski earned her BS in Microbiology from the University of San Antonio Abad del Cusco in Peru. Her advisor is Dr. Kellogg Schwab, Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences.
