Beth Feingold

Beth Feingold, MPH, MESc, is a fourth-year PhD candidate in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. For her dissertation work, Ms. Feingold is using satellite remote sensing and object-oriented classification to map animal feeding operations (AFOs) based on the spatial and spectral characteristics of the farm components. This will enable better characterization of the modern farm environment for exposure assessment studies over large geographic areas. Related to this, she is interested in spatial variation in risk and collaborates with researchers in the Netherlands and Eastern North Carolina on projects looking at the spatial association between livestock-associated MRSA (methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and swine farm locations. Beth holds a Master of Public Health and a Master of Environmental Science from Yale University, and a BA in Geology from Vassar College. Her advisor is Dr. Ellen Silbergeld, Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences.
