Dania Orta-Aleman

Dania Orta-Aleman, MPH, is a fifth-year PhD candidate in the Human Nutrition program in the Department of International Health. Her dissertation will focus on understanding trends and factors associated with red and processed meat consumption. More specifically, she will investigate the affordability of different meat purchasing profiles, how food insecurity influences meat purchasing and the effect of federal food programs on meat purchasing. She has collaborated in different projects with the Food Policy Networks team at CLF as well as in a research project evaluating the impact of Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative on breastfeeding practices with the Department of International Health. She received her MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of California, Berkeley, which she attended as a Fulbright Scholar. Prior to joining the PhD program, she worked at the Nutrition Policy Institute in California. She has also done research about food insecurity in older adults and the design of community-based interventions for diabetes management in Mexico. Her adviser is Laura Caulfield, PhD.
