Sonia Sarkar

Sonia Sarkar, MPH, is a fourth-year DrPH student in the Healthcare Leadership and Management track of the Department of Health Policy and Management. She received BA degrees in public health and international studies from Johns Hopkins University and an MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Sonia's research and practice focus on assessing the availability of community-based and public resources tackling food insecurity, as well as facilitating linkages to those resources through the healthcare system in order to improve patient health and ensure a robust and equitable food system. Sonia has spent over a decade working on solutions that address social and economic determinants of health, most recently as chief policy and engagement officer for the Baltimore City Health Department and previously as chief of staff at Health Leads, a national social enterprise. She is also a consultant to several organizations including the Healthcare Anchor Network, a national collaboration of leading health systems building inclusive and sustainable local economies. Her adviser is Shannon Frattaroli, PhD.
